Imogen Young Awarded Arwright Scholarship
Posted on: 21/07/2019Congratulations to Imogen Young in our outgoing Year 11 who has been awarded an Arkwright Engineering Scholarship and will pursue her ambition of becoming an engineer next year.
The Scholarship is awarded by the Smallpeice Trust and is the most prestigious scholarship of its type in the UK to inspire and nurture school-age students to be the country’s future leaders of the Engineering Profession. The selection process is rigorous and there are thousands of applicants each year.
Every Scholarship is sponsored by a commercial company, trade association, university, professional institution, armed service, government organisation, worshipful company, charitable trust or personal donor. This means that support is offered in various different ways, for example, hands-on work experience and a personal mentor to help you academic study and career planning.
Imogen follows what is fast becoming a tradition at DGS as she represents the third year in a row our students have been successful in being awarded a Scholarship with Arkwright. As a school, we believe it is vitally important we continue to grow participation and enthusiasm for STEM subjects and engage with organisations such as the Smallpeice Trust as only 11% of UK engineers in 2019 are female. Well done, Imogen.
