Reading
At DGS, we know that reading is an essential part of students being able to make excellent progress, maintain good wellbeing and interact with the world around them. With this in mind, reading is a significant part of our school life. All students in KS3 spend two Student Guidance Time sessions per week reading with their tutors; we have a dedicated library curriculum to improve reading skills; our reading Highly Intentional Process enables teachers to support all students in lessons; students who require additional support with reading receive targeted intervention; and we have a tangible reading for pleasure culture that inspires and motivates our students. As such, we are proud to call ourselves a ‘Reading School’, where reading permeates all areas of school life.
