Mr Tamplin's Thought for the Term
Posted on: 17/12/2020Communicating and Connecting
This year has been one like no other. We have developed our technological skills, we have had to adapt to speaking to loved ones over Zoom, WhatsApp and Teams. We have had to stay inside more and see less people. We have had to learn remotely. There's no doubt that the way we have had to communicate with people has fundamentally changed.
And yet it hasn't.
The important aspects of communication and connecting with people have remained the same. Kindness, respect, humour, fairness, patience and understanding are still at the heart of all positive relationships. Sometimes it's been challenging to uphold all those values when we, ourselves, are under great stress but that is exactly the time we learn that people deserve to experience those characteristics from all of us because people need that to get them through really challenging times.
This year, I've certainly begun to have an increased appreciation of the personal connections I have with others. Seeing friends, family and colleagues are what makes life what it is. So, I want to say a huge thank you to everyone that I've connected with this year, you've made a very difficult year bearable and I hope that you get to connect with your loved ones in some form over the Christmas period, even if that can only be virtually.
Have a lovely break.
