DGS team placed third in Top of the Bench competition

Posted on: 17/01/2025

A Team from Didcot Girls' School recently entered the Royal Society of Chemistry Top of the Bench competition at Oxford University. It is designed to inspire excitement about Chemistry in school students – whoever they are, wherever their skills currently lie.

The students had a wonderful day and here is what some of them said:

‘I had an amazing time with my team, and we were so surprised and elated when our team number was called for third place! The task was challenging - we had to test "urine" samples for drugs and medical diagnoses using chemical practicals such as Vacuum Filtration - but because of my great teammates and our hard work, we managed to place, and we were so happy when we did’.

‘I had such an amazing day! The competition involved conducting various tests and experiments on fake urine samples, including identifying an unknown medicine hidden in one of them. I really enjoyed working together as a team in the lab and using all sorts of interesting equipment!’

Ava

‘The competition was amazing. We spent two hours in the lab completing various experiments which gained us points and the team with the most points wins. The staff who worked there were so kind and helped guide us through the experiments. Overall, it was an amazing experience which even included a lecture at the end’.

Congratulations to you all on your success!
