Carterton Primary School celebrates new library!

Posted on: 25/10/2024

On Wednesday 23rd October, we offically opened the new library at Carterton Primary School. We were delighted that Jo Cotterill, author of  many wonderful children's books including 'A Library of Lemons' and 'Electrigirl', cut the ribbon and officially declared the library open for business! Jo is Patron of Reading for the Ridgeway Education Trust and we look forward to many further visits to the school for Jo to talk about her books and inspire our children with their own creative writing.

We enjoyed talks from Mr Jackson, our headteacher, Julia and Alyssa in Year 6, as well as Mr Shaughnessy, Director of Primary Education at Ridgeway Education Trust. Liv Walters, Year 12 student from Carterton Community College, treated us  to a reading from her favourite primary school book, 'Giraffes Can't Dance'. We are delighted to be setting up a peer reading programme between Year 12 students from CCC and our children at CPS next term, and look forward to seeing Liv again very soon!

Huge thanks to the Friends of Carterton Primary School whose fundraising work has enabled us to buy so many new books for our children to enjoy, and to the Farmington Institute whose generous donation provided the funds to refurbish and decorate the library. We were joined by Leanne and Becky from Friends of CPS, colleagues from RAF Brize Norton, Trustees from Ridgeway Education Trust, the CEO from Ridgeway Education Trust, Rachael Warwick, and Kay Webb, representing the Farmington Institute. A particular thanks to Mrs Hill, Assistant Headteacher at CPS, who has taken the lead on the library project and given so much of her time to it. As Mrs Warwick reflected, creating a library for the children at Carterton Primary School has been a community effort and we are very grateful to everyone who has supported this venture. Happy Reading!
